Weston Conservation Commission Approves Scout Bat Box Project, Clears Two Old Permits

WESTON — July 25, 2023 — Weston Conservation Commission clears Eagle Scout bat box project and two decades-old permit orders in busy July session. The commission voted unanimously at its July 25 meeting to approve Tommy Kickham's Eagle Scout proposal to install five cedar bat boxes at Birchard Park on conservation land, while staff directed him to coordinate with Recreation Director Chris Fitzgerald for installation assistance. Chair Rees Tulloss and Conservation Administrator Jordan also guided the board through unanimous votes issuing a partial certificate of compliance for 70 Jericho Road — part of the Stonegate Condominiums complex, burdened by an open DEP order since the 1990s — and a compliance certificate for 21 Blake Road, where a house was prepped but never built. The commission issued a Negative Determination of Applicability for dead-tree removal at 90 Concord Road, where beaver damming on the Cherry Brook circa 2020 killed roughly 14 evergreens on a man-made pond's edge, and closed the hearing for a teardown-rebuild at 120 Radcliffe Road with conditions requiring a pending stormwater permit and a pre-construction invasive-species site visit. A larger teardown-rebuild at 21 Warren Place was continued to August 22 after the commission flagged that the proposed house — roughly two to three times the size of the existing structure — may not yet meet riverfront-area performance standards, and a Cambridge Water Department official suggested the parcel falls within a Zone A public water-supply designation.
