Weston Planning Board orders Glen Road wall removed, patio cut back to approved plan

WESTON — July 26, 2023 — Weston Planning Board denies retroactive approval of an unpermitted retaining wall extension and patio enlargement at 241 Glen Road, ordering the site restored. The board voted 4-1 to reject the retaining wall extension — approximately 60 feet, or 33 percent, beyond the approved plan — and unanimously denied the enlarged patio at the property, which was purchased from a bank in foreclosure. Board member Alicia Primer said the case "sends a terrible message both up and down Glen Road and everywhere in Weston" if unapproved work goes without consequence, while Chair Leslie Glynn, the lone dissenter on the wall vote, said she "would never have approved a big squared off patio" and would have required a curved design to fit the hillside. Attorney Joe Brodigan argued on behalf of the developer that the wall met zoning criteria and would likely have been approved had the proper amendment process been followed, but the board majority held firm on precedent. The owner, Ryan Silverman, confirmed he would remove the wall extension, grill, and excess patio within days; town planner Imai said she would then inspect and sign off on compliance.
