Weston School Committee Unanimously Ratifies Interim Superintendent Contract at $205,000

WESTON — April 25, 2023 — Weston School Committee ratifies interim superintendent contract at $205,000 with new dispute-resolution provisions. The committee voted 5-0 Tuesday to ratify a one-year agreement with Dr. Cameron Zaleski, dated April 22, 2023, following six rounds of negotiation conducted by member Kenneth Newberg without outside legal counsel. The contract sets a salary of $205,000 — within the $180,000-to-$220,000 range Newberg benchmarked across comparable Massachusetts districts — and adds mandatory mediation, formal due-process notice requirements before any termination hearing, and up to $5,000 for professional coaching. The committee also received a sustainability briefing warning that school energy costs will rise 29 to 30 percent in fiscal year 2024, and heard a third-quarter budget report showing 3.4 percent of the $44.9 million budget remaining as of March 31. The district remains in active teacher contract negotiations, with the next bargaining session set for May 1.
