Weston Conservation Commission Advances Wetlands Bylaw to Town Counsel Review

WESTON — June 7, 2022 — Weston Conservation Commission advances wetlands bylaw draft to town counsel and approves four property applications. Chair Rees Tulloss and members voted unanimously to send a draft wetlands bylaw — based on the Massachusetts Association of Conservation Commissions model but trimmed to five pages — to KP Law for initial legal review, targeting a November 2022 town meeting; a question of whether the Select Board should hold review authority over the commission's regulation-making power was flagged as a placeholder. The board issued determinations of applicability for 501 Glenn Road (buffer zone work, negative three) and 24 Bogle Street (septic replacement within riverfront area, negative two), closed a notice of intent for 7 Woodchester with a native-vegetation restoration condition, and hired wetland scientist Patrick Garner under MGL Chapter 44, Section 53G to peer-review an overlapping-resource-area delineation at 225 Winter Street for developer Cutting Edge Homes. Recreation Director Chris Fitzgerald and Recreation Commission Chair Eric Rosenhall sought — and received — informal assurance that the commission would work toward a memorandum of understanding amendment to allow a pickleball court at Birchard Park, with no wetland conflicts anticipated on the proposed left-side-of-driveway location.
