Weston committee weighs consultant to update decade-old sidewalk master plan

WESTON — November 18, 2020 — Weston Traffic and Sidewalk Committee weighs hiring a consultant to rewrite its decade-old sidewalk master plan. Chair Jay Hetherington said the existing plan, which produced completed or in-design projects on Brown, Merriam and Ash streets, no longer reflects current priorities and leaves the committee reacting to "squeaky wheels." Department of Public Works Director Steve Fogg will bring an FY21 consulting budget update to the December meeting; a procurement could be funded from FY22 dollars. Members also heard that the Route 30 reconstruction 25 percent design was submitted to MassDOT last month, and that the new owner of the former Liberty Mutual site is offering to fund area roadway, sidewalk and crossing improvements in exchange for relief from time-of-day restrictions on two buildings. Weston Police Capt. Kevin Kelly told the panel the new town-center four-way stop has produced no crashes since installation. The next meeting is Wednesday, Dec. 16.
