Weston School Committee authorizes sign-on bonuses to hire up to four bus drivers

WESTON — December 13, 2021 — Weston School Committee authorizes sign-on bonuses to recruit up to four new bus drivers. The 5-0 vote at the Dec. 13 meeting responded to two driver departures at the end of December and a third in January, with Chair Anita Raman saying private carriers and neighboring districts have set the bonus baseline. Superintendent Midge Connolly reported town COVID-19 cases more than doubled to 52 residents, keeping the high school out of mask-optional status, and warned of "an unprecedented number of students requiring hospitalization for their mental health needs." The district used ESSER funds to hire another mental health worker starting after break. The committee also unanimously approved the middle and high school programs of studies, which add a semester-long Personal Finance dual-enrollment course. Connolly said the entire boys' basketball team had been quarantined after masking-protocol lapses.
