Weston Boards Vote to Form Joint 3A Housing Compliance Working Group

WESTON — May 7, 2025 — Weston's Planning Board and Select Board unanimously formed a joint working group to craft an MBTA Communities Act Section 3A compliance plan, targeting a special town meeting vote in early fall. All eight members of the two boards — Planning Board Chair Leslie Glynn, Vice Chair Sean Lanier, and members Alex Selvig, Jing Yu, and Al Adelot, along with Select Board members Lisa Yanofsky, Tom Morrison, and newly elected John McDonald — voted in favor at the May 7 joint session. Yanofsky proposed the full-membership structure to avoid quorum problems and repetitive reporting, saying, "More than anything right now we need a 3A plan that can be accepted by the town." Morrison initially preferred a smaller subgroup, saying members "didn't sign a blank check" on their calendars, but deferred after McDonald indicated he wanted to participate. The group, which will meet weekly on Zoom and is open to public comment, is conditioned on adopting a written charter at its first meeting; Town Counsel Leon Zomak was described as drafting that document. Weston's previous 3A compliance plan was rejected by voters, making this the town's second attempt to satisfy the state mandate.
