Traffic committee advances Merriam Street sidewalk design ahead of May Town Meeting

WESTON — December 6, 2017 — Weston Traffic and Sidewalk Committee advances Merriam Street design and backs $1.2M in road funding requests. John Betsy of Beals and Thomas walked the committee through revised plans that narrow the sidewalk to four feet four inches near Cherry Brook wetlands, retain an existing stone retaining wall behind a new stepped wall, and carry pedestrians on a 76-foot timber boardwalk over the stream. "We're saving trees, we're saving the slope and the existing stone wall. So, bravo," abutter Leslie Glenn told the design team. Chair Jay Doyle, with members Tom Benson and Rich Goulin, unanimously recommended a $260,000 FY19 request for Route 20/Wellesley Street intersection design and a $937,700 FY19-20 request for Route 30 reconstruction design. Final Merriam Street drawings are due December 22, with the project targeted for the May 7 annual town meeting.
