Select Board backs feasibility study for 669 Boston Post Road housing concept

WESTON — September 1, 2021 — Weston Select Board affirms $15,000 study to test affordable housing at 669 Boston Post Road. The three-member board on Sept. 1 endorsed a Community Preservation Act administrative-funds request — already approved by the Community Preservation Committee — to study whether the 1870 house and barn at Boston Post Road and Warren Avenue can support a small affordable housing cluster before a one-year demolition delay expires around June 22, 2022. Historical Commission presenter Alicia called the site "a perfect example of how the demolition delay bylaws should work." Member Christopher Houston pressed on valuation risk; presenters said any acquisition would require an independent appraisal. The board also reviewed a draft RFQ for a Louisa's Wall conditions study, with Town Manager Leon Gaumond agreeing to soften a 20-year experience threshold, drop "co-author" to "author," and revisit a $1 million insurance requirement before releasing the bid within two weeks. Resident Susan Zacharias of Sudbury Road asked the board to discuss expanding from three to five members; Chair Harvey Boshart agreed to schedule it.
