Rail-Trail Panel Votes to Temporarily Block Vehicles at Gun Club Lane Triangle

WESTON — December 10, 2018 — Weston's Rail-Trail Advisory Committee voted unanimously to install temporary barriers at the unstabilized Gun Club Lane trail crossing triangle, choosing either snow fencing or boulders depending on DPW guidance. The December 10 vote directs town staff to approach the Department of Public Works, Conservation Commission, and DCR to block vehicle access and parking in the area while a longer-term plan is developed. The committee also discussed more than $100,000 in commemorative bench and paver funds held by the Weston 300 nonprofit, which expressed interest in partnering to place amenities along the rail trail. Members flagged a mounting dog-waste and litter problem observed during a recent trail walk and agreed to invite the town's animal control officer to the January 14 meeting to plan a spring enforcement effort. The committee declined to pursue a Community Preservation Committee funding application this cycle, citing a full project queue.
