Kendal Common Study Committee unanimously approves proposed district boundaries

WESTON — June 30, 2022 — Weston committee sets Kendal Common historic district boundary and turns to landscape question. The Kendal Common Study Committee voted unanimously Thursday to adopt boundaries following the original mid-century development's "Sketch Map," including vacant lots and substantially altered houses but stopping at the Waltham town line. Member David Hewett urged "the most protective language we can about the character of the landscape," citing the neighborhood's roots as houses "inserted into the woods" of a former Olmsted Brothers golf course. Staff liaison Christine Glynn reported the town-wide modernism survey RFQ will release on or about July 10, with the Massachusetts Historical Commission identifying three qualified bidders. Members agreed a separate consultant will draft the study report, with Rick Stafford leading neighborhood outreach through the Kendal Common Corporation board ahead of an early-fall public meeting.
