Historical Commission clears Newton Street renovation, finds Bullard Road estate significant

WESTON — December 2, 2019 — Weston Historical Commission clears Newton Street renovation, advances Bullard Road and Case Estates projects. The commission on Dec. 2 voted that proposed exterior changes at 145 Newton Street — replacing vinyl with cedar shingles, restoring a Craftsman entry around a 100-year-old door, and adding wood windows — were "not detrimental to the significant house." It also found a 1919 English Revival estate at 33 Bullard Road significant, citing designers Allen W. Borden and Arthur Shurcliff and the home's listing in a 1927 book of New England architecture; owner Paul Bevilacqua and architect Richard Pignataro of Polhemus Savery DaSilva were told to preserve vertical Tudor window proportions before a Jan. 6 public hearing. The commission also approved a memo to Mill Creek Residential demanding the historic Case Estates barn be reassembled and weatherproofed at Lands Sake rather than "delivered disassembled," with Co-Chair Phyllis Halpern warning "Lands Sake is not equipped to save that barn."
