Historical Commission approves four demolition-delay proposals, finds 1690 John Warren House significant

WESTON — November 10, 2020 — Weston Historical Commission discovers possible deed-restriction violation at 171 Church Street. Members reviewing a routine landscape proposal realized an in-ground pool, spa, shed and patio at the Coburn Barn subdivision property appear to violate paragraph 4.2.3(D) of the preservation restriction, which member Alfred Aydelott — who said he wrote the guidelines — read aloud as prohibiting in-ground pools outright. "We've got a direct violation of the deed restriction," Aydelott said; staff will check permit records before the Nov. 17 meeting. Across more than three hours, the commission also approved demolition of a 1940s saltbox at 416 Conant Road, voted 4-1 that a 1937 cement-block ranch at 12 Granison Road was not significant over Co-Chair Phyllis Halpern's objection, found the circa-1690 John Warren House at 71 Lexington Street significant, and approved a $1,545.30 Structures North invoice.
