Fire station group postpones funding request to May 2025 town meeting
WESTON — June 3, 2024 — Weston Fire Station Working Group resets timeline to May 2025 and opens new superstation scenarios. Working Group Chair Tom and member Jim told colleagues June 3 that the Select Board wants the November 2024 special town meeting reserved for a roughly $30 million water tank request, pushing fire station design funds — likely around $5 million — to the May 2025 annual town meeting. Architect Lisa was asked to model two new scenarios — a south-side superstation with a light central renovation, and a Route 20 station with a light south-side renovation — alongside a cost-comparison sheet against Lexington, whose 26,000-square-foot 2017 build escalates to roughly $844 per square foot versus Weston's roughly $1,100 estimate. Project consultants Vertex reported less than 7 percent of the design fee spent.
