CPC recommends $250,000 in design funds for Memorial Pool renovation

WESTON — October 26, 2020 — Weston CPC unanimously recommends $250,000 to design a $2 million Memorial Pool renovation. The Community Preservation Committee, chaired by Steve, voted 8-0 Monday to send the design appropriation from unallocated reserves to the next town meeting, whether a possible early 2021 special, an accelerated annual, or the regular May session. Recreation Commission member Melissa and Recreation Director Chris said replacing the pool's 1993 filtration system alone will cost $500,000 to $750,000 once concrete removal, replumbing and electrical work are added, with the full project estimated by GNAP Architects at $1.9 million to $2.2 million. A new bathhouse was dropped after the Board of Health accepted the existing outdoor showers, saving roughly $2 million. Member Nina questioned whether filter replacement is CPA-eligible rehabilitation; Steve cited prior HVAC work at the Wake and Josiah Smith Tavern as precedent. Member Sue warned the project will need hard usage data to clear town meeting: "You're going to have to sell it."
