Conservation Commission extends dam, trail maintenance orders for five years

WESTON — June 4, 2024 — Weston Conservation Commission extends dam and trail maintenance permits, approves fire rebuild on North Avenue. The commission voted unanimously Tuesday to extend two 2014 general orders of conditions — DEP 337-1015 for dam maintenance and 337-1016 for trail and invasive-species work — to July 21, 2029, with Conservation Administrator Jordan McCarron urging members not to reopen language he said remains "still relevant." Members also closed the hearing and issued an order of conditions for the rebuild of 479 North Avenue, a property destroyed by fire, authorizing removal of 12 buffer-zone trees and requiring four upsized 10-to-12-foot river birches as mitigation. A request at 25 Holly Circle won a negative-three determination for tree removal and a 10-by-14-foot shed. Chair Rees Tulloss and Member Alison Fronk Barlow previewed a June 25 joint meeting with the Select Board on swapping 4.5 acres of Article 97 land for three new water-tank sites, with Barlow warning members "we really all have to agree" or risk losing the package at Town Meeting. The WFTA contributed $3,000 to fund a second summer land steward.
