Conservation Commission continues two hearings, approves Eagle Scout boardwalks

WESTON — July 27, 2021 — Weston Conservation Commission punts Green Lane teardown and grill appeal, advances swallowwort treatment. The commission on July 27 unanimously continued a Notice of Intent hearing for a tear-down rebuild at 31 Green Lane to Aug. 10 after Cambridge Water Department raised concerns in a July 26 letter from Jamie O'Connell about pool discharge and stormwater treatment in a tributary to the city's water supply; builder John McGill and engineer Jason Lavoie also pledged to add permeable pavers cutting roughly 1,500 square feet of impervious driveway. Chair Joe Berman continued a separate appeal by Marie and Edson Forbes over a staff ban on propane grills at the community gardens, directing Conservation Agent Jordan to consult the fire chief; gardener Henry Viles told the board "a gas grill is the safest possible type of grill to possibly have." By consensus the commission also let the Westin-Wayland Rotary Club, represented by Katya, accelerate herbicide treatment of a 1.4-acre meadow that Jordan estimated is "probably over 90 percent black swallowwort," and unanimously approved Troop 157 Eagle Scouts Neil and Yash Agarwal to build two 30-foot boardwalks on Weston Forest and Trail Association land near Burchard.
