Conservation Commission clears Brothers plaza accessibility and wastewater work

WESTON -- June 18, 2024, Weston Conservation Commission clears Brothers plaza upgrades and renews Valley Pond aquatic management. The commission voted 5-0 Tuesday to issue a negative-three determination on a 21 Center Street project that includes ADA-compliant sidewalk reconstruction, a new 6,000-gallon wastewater surge tank and pump station, and repaving, all within the 100-foot buffer to bordering vegetated wetland. Engineer Eric Glass said construction could begin within one to two weeks. Members then closed out DEP File No. 337-1355 and issued a new order, 337-1491, for Valley Pond Corporation's swim pond, authorizing continued use of Hydrothol 191, a copper-based backup algaecide, and alum. Waterfront director David said aggressive thermal management, drawing off the top two inches of water and refilling overnight from a deep well, has cut treatments "from about four a year" to one. The meeting was outgoing Chair Joe Berman's last; member Alison Fronk Barlow updated colleagues on the Article 97 water-tank land swap heading to a joint meeting with the Select Board on June 25.
