Conservation Commission Approves Teardown-Rebuild Order for 225 Winter Street

WESTON — October 25, 2022 — Weston Conservation Commission unanimously approves order of conditions for teardown-rebuild at 225 Winter Street. The four-member quorum, chaired by Rees Tulloss, voted to issue the order for a proposed 3,755-square-foot, one-story home on a wetland-surrounded 7.5-acre lot, replacing a fire-damaged 1966 structure owned by a family relocating from California. David Cowell of Hancock Associates told the commission the project qualifies under riverfront redevelopment standards, holds the inner 100-foot riparian zone as a no-disturb area, and replaces a non-compliant cesspool with a Title 5 system. The order is contingent on the applicant obtaining any required stormwater permit before construction begins and specifies a 12-to-18-inch compost filter mitt as perimeter erosion control. The commission also heard an informal preview of a cantilevered deck proposal at 23 Windsor Way that would project over the 25-foot no-disturb zone without ground contact, with commissioners indicating openness to a formal submission provided it includes a wildlife habitat assessment.
