WESTON — Board of Health enforces deadline for contaminated fill testing at Merriam Street. Chair Laura Azzam and members Dr. Jennifer Kickham and Diana Chaplin unanimously approved a motion requiring the homeowner to submit test results within 30 days after unclean fill from a stormwater project and Newton property was placed on the site.
The board also heard results from Weston's opioid abatement assessment: of 104 residents surveyed, 20.4 percent had lost a loved one to overdose and 36.5 percent knew someone impacted by opioid use; prevention, connection to care, and harm reduction were top priorities. Public Health Nurse Rachel Olivera reported 25 confirmed flu cases in March and 9 in April, with salmonella and campylobacteriosis cases also identified. A mocktail event, part of the "No Proof Required" sober-environment initiative, is scheduled for April 30 at the Josiah Smith Tavern.
