Weston ZBA approves Woodchester second-story addition, excludes tennis court

WESTON — February 2, 2022 — Weston ZBA approves Woodchester Drive addition but sidelines proposed tennis court. The board voted 3-0 on Feb. 2 to grant Rebecca Cantar a special permit to add a second story to a 1955 ranch at 16 Woodchester Drive, keeping the existing foundation and lifting the height from 19.8 feet to 33.6 feet within the 37-foot bylaw cap. Attorney Jonathan White said the 4,274-square-foot project was intentionally held to 10 percent over the 3,500-square-foot site-plan threshold, with architects from Moskow Linn citing embodied-carbon preservation. The board excluded a proposed clay tennis court shown on Sheet A0.2 because it was not advertised; a separate special-permit filing is expected within four to six weeks. In the night's second case, Shi Chen Hsu withdrew a variance request for a third garage bay at 141 Cherry Brook Road after Chair Jane Carlson said variances are granted "sparingly" and members Natalie Sawyer and Sujit Sitole urged a within-envelope redesign.
