Weston ZBA approves Sunset Road two-home variance and Chase Bank special permit

WESTON — March 26, 2024 — Weston ZBA grants temporary two-home variance on Sunset Road and clears Chase Bank to nearly double a Center Street footprint. The board voted 3-0 on March 26 to let Nigel and Eva Dew remain in their existing house at 29 Sunset Road while McGeough Custom Homes builds a new home at the rear of the lot, conditioning the variance on groundbreaking within one year, completion within two years and demolition of the existing house within 45 days of a temporary certificate of occupancy. Abutter Wendy Armour of 21 Sunset Road backed the petition but pressed for a single curb cut and a beefed-up tree buffer, saying she was "not crazy about the big long driveway." In a second 3-0 vote, the ZBA granted Project Expediters a special permit on behalf of Chase Bank to combine the former Santander and Coldwell Banker spaces at 25 Center Street into a roughly 1,900-square-foot branch with eight to 10 employees, exceeding the bylaw's 1,000-square-foot bank cap. Chair Jane Fisher Carlson, Laura Mintz and Tristan Colangelo voted in favor of both motions.
