Weston ZBA advances toward denial of 180-unit South Avenue 40B project

WESTON — July 11, 2022 — Weston's Zoning Board of Appeals moved closer to denying a 180-unit Chapter 40B rental development at 518 South Avenue during a closed deliberation session Monday. Chair Jane Carlson and members Winifred Lee and Sujit Siddholy reviewed a second draft denial decision prepared by town counsel John Witten of KP Law, directing Witten to strengthen sections on stormwater standard two and wastewater disposal, remove legally problematic language about potential college-student tenants, and correct a blanket denial of a parking waiver that the board said was imprecise. The board voted 3-0 to reschedule a follow-up Zoom session for July 13 at 1 p.m. and 3-0 to hold two in-person signing sessions at Town Hall on July 26 and July 28, both at noon. The project — 200 rental units, 50 of them affordable, on roughly 9.54 acres — has been before the board since at least 2022, with peer reviewers finding the site unable to meet state stormwater management requirements.
