Weston Traffic Committee tracks Merriam Street, Legacy Trail toward fall completion

WESTON — September 16, 2020 — Weston Traffic Committee tracks three walkway projects as Route 30 design heads to Select Board. Town Engineer Steve Fogg told the panel Wednesday that Merriam Street paving is paused about a week pending two clean bacteria tests on a relocated water main, after which the road can reopen and footbridge construction with Wick Craft helical piles begins. Fogg said the new boardwalk likely will not be plowed because its load rating cannot safely carry the town's Bombardier sidewalk plow. The Legacy Trail and Case Estates walkway should be substantially complete within two weeks, opening continuous access from Alphabet Lane to Ash Street. Resident Peter Hill urged a HAWK signal at Route 117 and Church Street instead of the planned solar rectangular rapid flashing beacon, telling the committee, "You're putting people's lives in danger." Chair Jay Doyle said the Route 30 pre-25-percent design goes to the Select Board on Sept. 22.
