Weston Select Board declares water conservation emergency amid low tank levels

WESTON — July 26, 2022 — Weston Select Board declares water conservation emergency and approves September special town meeting warrant. Citing a drop in the Paines Hill storage tank to roughly 12.5 feet — two feet below the alarm threshold — the board voted unanimously Tuesday to activate odd-even day outdoor watering restrictions limiting irrigation to the hours of 6 PM to 6 AM. Town Manager Leon Gaucher said the restriction, rooted in a 2016 bylaw never formally lifted, will be publicized via sandwich boards, the town website, and social media, with direct outreach to large institutional water users. Board member Lori Bent, who chairs the town's water conservation working group, noted the situation mirrors the July 2016 crisis when tanks fell to approximately two feet of water remaining. The board also unanimously approved a seven-article warrant for a September 13 special town meeting headlined by a Community Preservation Act borrowing article for rehabilitation of the Memorial Pool.
