Weston Schools Update Immigration Enforcement Policy

School Commitee · Meeting of September 14, 2026

Weston School Committee tightens immigration enforcement policy, faces parent pushback on transparency. The committee voted 4-0 to amend Policy ACH, aligning its year-old ban on civil immigration enforcement on school grounds with the state's new PROTECT Act; member Ken said the change adds "administrative requirements" but leaves practice unchanged. Several parents used public comment to press the committee over its handling of complaints about the superintendent, with one saying, "It's really astonishing that that's allowed." The district's business official reported a preliminary $54,075 surplus against a $49.4 million budget, offset by a $337,000 utilities deficit driven by a 38.1 percent jump in natural gas usage.

The committee also laid out, without voting, its timeline for negotiating Superintendent Dr. Zaleski's successor contract, due before December 30, and discussed rejoining the CASE Collaborative for an estimated $28,000 to $32,000 in special-education tuition savings against a $5,500 membership fee.
