Weston Schools Propose $51.4 Million FY27 Budget With 3.99 Percent Increase

WESTON — January 12, 2026 — Weston School Committee hears $51.4 million FY27 budget proposal calling for a 3.99 percent spending increase. Superintendent Dr. Karen Zaleski told the committee Monday that the administration trimmed an initial 5.36 percent draft to land under 4 percent, in part to build goodwill ahead of a looming school building project, noting the district's six-year average increase has been 3.21 percent. The $51,380,028 proposal includes fixed elementary sectioning, expanded middle school world language starting in grade seven, and one new high school FTE to support the district's new 10-day schedule — down from the three FTEs administrators called ideal for reducing student study halls. The committee's sole formal vote was unanimous approval of a consent agenda covering minutes, a procurement policy revision, and a regular warrant. Further budget discussion is set for January 26, with a public forum planned for early February.
