Weston School Committee reviews $2.25 million investment plan for FY27 budget

WESTON — December 15, 2025 — Weston School Committee hears $1.85 million to $2.25 million in proposed FY27 investments, with secondary campus renovation now formally in motion. Committee Chair Daina Selvig opened the December 15 meeting by noting all four of the district's major initiatives had moved simultaneously, including the start of teacher contract negotiations. Superintendent Karen Fella and her team presented a level-of-service baseline of $51,182,294 — a 3.59 percent increase over FY26 — with proposed additions targeting fixed elementary sectioning ($250,000 to $350,000), middle school world language expansion ($150,000 to $200,000), high school scheduling reforms ($250,000 to $300,000), special education co-teaching and adaptive physical education staffing ($350,000 to $400,000), and technology ($850,000), pushing the gross increase to roughly 8 percent before offsets. Committee member Kenneth Newberg confirmed the Massachusetts School Building Authority voted December 12 to accept Weston into its eligibility program, launching a five-to-seven-year secondary campus renovation process with a minimum 31 percent state reimbursement rate and an official start date of April 1, 2026.
