Weston School Committee Presents Three Superintendent Finalists at Public Forum
WESTON — November 29, 2023 — Weston School Committee held a public forum Wednesday featuring three superintendent finalists ahead of a December 4 appointment vote. School Committee Chair Daina Selvig and member Kenneth Newberg opened the session, which student moderator Courtney, a senior at Weston High School, led by posing identical questions to each finalist in sequence. Finalist Allison Borchers cited the Calculus Project as a model for equity-without-compromise-on-rigor, saying "equity done right is not a tradeoff with rigor." Finalist Dr. Karen Zaleski, currently serving the district in an interim capacity since July, disclosed she had submitted a National Science Foundation grant statement of interest that day seeking $60,000 to $100,000 for teacher training in next-generation science standards. Finalist Dave Thompson, superintendent in Norwood, described leading that district's $158 million middle school construction project and said Norwood's MSBA educational plan was called out by the authority as the highest quality it had seen. The committee will conduct 90-minute interviews with each finalist on December 1 at Case House before voting on an appointment December 4 at the Amy Potter Center at Weston Middle School.
