Weston School Committee Approves Interim Superintendent Goals, Advances Finalist Search

WESTON — October 30, 2023 — Weston School Committee approved interim superintendent goals and named three finalists in its superintendent search at the October 30 meeting. The committee voted unanimously to accept the goals of Interim Superintendent Dr. Zaleski, who framed all three objectives — student learning, professional practice, and community connection — around her ongoing entry-plan process, with a findings report due before the board by March 1, 2024. Director of Curriculum and Assessment Kimo presented detailed 2023 MCAS results showing Weston tied for first in grades three through eight English Language Arts with Lexington but flagging a stark achievement gap: the district ranked fifth statewide in grade 10 ELA for all students but fell to 51st when measuring only high-needs students, prompting calls for stronger intervention structures at the high school level. Chair Daina Selvig announced that five superintendent candidates were interviewed last week and three accepted finalist offers, with names to be released publicly at the November 6 meeting.
