Weston School Committee Elects Selvig Vice Chair, Reviews Building Project Timeline
WESTON — May 12, 2025 — Weston School Committee reorganizes and advances middle and high school building planning. The committee formally confirmed Daina Selvig as vice chair at the May 12 meeting after a Zoom outage obscured the earlier vote from part of the public audience; Stephen Dietz serves as chair. Kenneth Newberg briefed the committee on an options matrix of six conceptual building scenarios — ranging from no action to a combined single structure — telling members "the best decision would be made by the towns to people and not by us, if there isn't consensus around like one, obviously preferable path." Newberg said the design phase is expected to wrap up by late July or early August, with a community education and feedback process to follow and a possible advisory town meeting vote thereafter. The committee also announced a completed labor agreement with the WEAA, with WAPA negotiations ongoing and the WDA teachers' contract set as the major bargaining task for next year. Derek Joyce was unanimously re-appointed school committee secretary, and the committee accepted April 28 meeting minutes as its sole consent agenda item.
