Weston Reviews Concept Plan for Norumbega Road Path and Parking Upgrades

WESTON — April 9, 2025 — Weston and DCR unveil a concept plan to add a shared-use path to Norumbega Road at a projected cost of $3 million to $5 million. DCR Project Manager Dan Driscoll presented the roughly one-mile corridor redesign at an April 9 community meeting alongside Select Board member Lori Bent, Town Manager Leon Gohmert, and engineering consultant Matt DiGiacomo of Howard Esten Hudson, saying design fees alone are estimated at $400,000 to $500,000. The project would add a river-side pedestrian and bicycle path, formalized trailhead parking, and pedestrian crossings at Maplewood Senior Living and Charles River Recovery, which together generate about 600 fire department responses per year. Driscoll said the project would be funded entirely through DCR's state parkway reconstruction budget of more than $20 million annually and would not depend on federal dollars. He has submitted a proposal to include the project in DCR's fiscal year 2026 capital plan; if approved, design could begin mid to late summer 2025, with construction potentially starting in late 2026.
