Weston Planning Board Continues Scenic Road Height Violation Hearing to April

WESTON — March 1, 2023 — Weston Planning Board splits over how to handle a house built 14 inches too tall on a scenic road. The board voted 4-0 at its March 1 meeting to continue the 506 North Avenue hearing to April 5, after members could not agree on a path forward for a scenic road site plan amendment sought by developer Gary Litchfield and architect Henry Arnauto, who acknowledged an error in placing the base elevation datum on the construction plans caused the structure to exceed its approved height limit by approximately 14 inches. Attorney Joseph Duquette told the board the Zoning Board of Appeals had directed the applicants to obtain a Planning Board recommendation before a variance could be granted. Vice Chair Alex Selvig, who called the situation a precedent concern but not a visual impact problem, said he would favor requiring installation of a solar array as mitigation, while member Timothy Shawn Lanier said the arrangement "smells like extraction" and suggested the roof simply be corrected. The board separately closed public hearings on 102 Sudbury Road and 6 Clifford Lane by 4-0 votes, with decisions on both scheduled for March 15.
