Weston Historical Commission Declares Glenn Road House Significant, Blocks Demolition

WESTON — April 17, 2018 — Weston Historical Commission votes on five property matters and hears town manager search briefing. The commission unanimously declared a 1924 foursquare at 270 Glenn Road historically significant, triggering a demolition delay and scheduling a public hearing for May 15, while voting not significant on a heavily remodeled 1875 structure in the Orchard Avenue historic area slated for replacement with a barn-style residence. The board also approved alterations — including a new rear addition, garage conversion, and Marvin window replacements — at the 1926 George Wakeham house at 230 Merriam Street, finding the changes "subordinate" to the historic structure. Steve Obert, a member of the selectmen's town manager screening committee, told the commission that applications are being accepted through May 22, with finalist referrals expected around June 11; Co-Chair Phyllis Halpern pressed for a new manager who understands "how much work it is to run this thing" without administrative support. The commission also approved a historic marker for 87 Brook Road and advanced plans to seek $200,000 in CPC funding at town meeting to begin design work on the Josiah Smith Tavern.
