Weston governance committee weighs faster track for Select Board expansion review
WESTON — June 20, 2024 — Weston's Town Governance Study Committee debated splitting off the Select Board expansion question for faster delivery this fall. Town Moderator Rip Hastings proposed accelerating the three-to-five member review so the Select Board can decide whether to advance a home rule petition "sooner rather than six months from now or eight months from now." Chair Harvey Boshart resisted creating "the Select Board three-to-five study committee and then the other study committee" but agreed to raise the idea with the Select Board chair. Member Kara Fleming reported roughly 10 people attended the June public listening session, including the citizen petitioner online, and proposed a "fact versus fiction" town webpage to counter what she called inaccurate claims — including the characterization of the advisory Town Meeting vote as binding. The committee finalized outreach assignments to roughly two dozen town boards, dropping the Agricultural Commission and Commissioners of Trust Funds, and set its next meeting for July 2.
