Weston governance committee sets May 30 listening session, divides board outreach

WESTON — May 23, 2024 — Weston governance committee sets May 30 hybrid listening session and divides board-by-board outreach. The Town Governance Study Committee, meeting May 23 under Chair Harvey Boshart, scheduled the 7 p.m. session for the Weston Public Library community room with a three-minute speaker limit and a segmented topic structure proposed by member Michael Harrity to keep discussion from collapsing into the three-versus-five select board debate. Member Kara Fleming is drafting a topic outline and, with Harrity, a common questionnaire on workload, appointments, term limits and elected-versus-appointed status. Members agreed Boshart, with Town Moderator Rip Hastings, will lead presentations to the School Committee, Planning Board and Finance Committee — "significant elected officials" who, member Michael Pappone said, "need more of a show" — while roughly a dozen smaller bodies will receive written outreach. The committee meets next June 6 at 4 p.m.
