Weston fire station group targets fall Special Town Meeting for design funds
WESTON — January 6, 2025 — Weston fire station planners push design vote to fall Special Town Meeting. The Fire Station Working Group on Jan. 6 abandoned a May Annual Town Meeting target after the recent water tank defeat and a parallel School Committee feasibility study that won't finalize site availability until June. Co-chair Tom Palmer said the Select Board wants to avoid stacking large capital requests: "We just don't want to bite off too much and have both kind of fail." The group authorized soil borings, a Phase 1 environmental assessment, and wetlands flagging at the proposed Wildcat Field site, plus engineering for a force main to the school campus's 28,800-gallon-per-day wastewater treatment plant. Tecton Architects will price three HVAC scenarios — fossil-fuel, all-electric, and geothermal-hybrid — for the Town Center station renovation. Member Carl Stjernfeldt challenged escalation methodology in a comparables table running from $780 to $1,200 per square foot.
