Weston Finance Committee unanimously approves $731,883 reserve fund draw and elects a new chair. The seven-member panel, meeting remotely on July 8, voted to exhaust the entire Finance Committee Reserve Fund for fiscal year 2026 across three draws: $524,000 for snow and ice removal, an amount for police overtime, and approximately $57,000 in legal costs tied largely to 40B housing litigation. Town Manager Leon Gaumond said the winter was "egregiously bad" by number of crew callouts and noted a potential $230,000 state reimbursement may arrive by September 30, reducing a remaining $60,000 recap shortfall.
A separate unanimous vote approved roughly $320,000 in internal operating transfers, with $240,000 coming from unfilled DPW salary lines — Gaumond cited seven current vacancies, roughly a third of the department. The committee also heard an urgent briefing from Alice Benson, chair of the town's Housing Production Plan steering committee, who said Weston must submit an updated plan to the state by August 14 or risk losing safe harbor protection against hostile 40B development applications. In a final unanimous vote, member Jonathan Harris moved to elect Maija Cirulis-Gooch as incoming chair, effective the next meeting; outgoing Chair Bharath Venkataraman praised her prior service as School Committee chair.
