Weston feasibility group sorts secondary-school priorities into five project pillars

WESTON — November 21, 2024 — Weston feasibility group ranks priorities for secondary-school project, confronts stalled enrollment forecast. The High School and Middle School Feasibility Study Working Group spent its Nov. 21 meeting in a visioning exercise led by project manager Jenny Party, sorting values, challenges and opportunities under five themes — education, community, sustainability, health and safety, and cost and value. Middle School Principal Sue Sasso and High School Principal Derek Sulc framed education around a "district design for all" theme and student belonging. Members flagged that the high school has only one working elevator and that middle school locker rooms have not been substantially updated since 1965. The group agreed the project is a "school first" but must continue housing Town Meeting in the roughly 700-seat auditorium. Party warned the Massachusetts School Building Authority will not fund pools and treats field houses as separate buildings. NESDEC declined to produce enrollment projections, delaying a key input before January programming.
