Planning Board advances ADU bylaw, splits on water tank zoning
WESTON — November 20, 2024 — Weston Planning Board recommends ADU bylaw, deadlocks on water tank zoning. The board on Nov. 20 voted 4-0 to send the town's local accessory dwelling unit bylaw — including a 12-month minimum lease term — to Special Town Meeting as an alternative to the state's self-enacting statute taking effect Feb. 2. Members Alex Selvig and Jing Yu said they preferred the existing variance process over a separate bylaw that would allow 400-foot-elevation municipal water tanks as of right, leaving Vice Chair Timothy Shawn Lanier's preferred recommendation deadlocked 2-2 with Chair Leslie Glynn absent. Attorney Dan Hill, representing Cat Rock Hill abutter Michael Chasen of 111 Doublet Hill Road, urged the board to table the article, calling it "not ready for adoption." The board also continued the MBTA 3A multifamily overlay hearing — covering roughly 750 units of capacity, with a Hobbs Brook backup floor amendment raising Granite Brook density to 16 units per acre — to a Nov. 26 special meeting. Town Counsel Jonathan Murray will provide a written opinion on the variance route before that meeting.
