Weston CPC takes up $2.1M tennis rebuild and $40,000 tree plan ahead of February vote

WESTON — January 29, 2024 — Weston CPC advances tennis rebuild and Town Green tree plan toward May Town Meeting. The Community Preservation Committee heard a $2.1 million request to reconstruct six high school tennis courts and an outdoor basketball court — with lighting dropped to save up to $500,000 — and a $40,000 Tree Advisory Group request for a Town Green, Lamson Park and Knox Park succession planting plan. Presenter Maya Gooch said an Activitas estimate came in at $1.995 million plus roughly $100,000 soft costs, with ADA path work also required. Chair Glenn Butcher pressed on $74,000 in retained electrical conduit, asking what "would change for us to actually have that … be a reasonable expense." TAG chair Carol said Eversource will supply and plant the trees; member Nathalie Thompson called the proposal "exactly why the CPC was created." Formal votes are scheduled for a Feb. 12 public hearing.
