Weston CPC reviews four CPA requests including $2.3M pool renovation

WESTON — February 7, 2022 — Weston CPC weighs $2.3M pool, $250K elderly-housing design and $1M housing-trust replenishment. The Community Preservation Committee heard four CPA applications Feb. 7 ahead of annual Town Meeting, taking no votes but pressing applicants on cost and eligibility. Recreation Commissioner Adam King and Director Chris Fitzgerald presented a $2.3 million Memorial Pool renovation including a splash pad, modest slide, family bathrooms, new sand filtration and replacement filter-house siding; the figure carries a 15 percent contingency. Member Nina Danforth challenged the filter replacement and siding as maintenance ineligible for CPA funds, calling the filter "a piece of equipment that needs to be replaced." Tom Timko requested $250,000 to design a 14-unit Building E at Brook School Apartments, projected at $6.9 million total or $493,000 per unit. Sarah Rhatigan sought $1 million to replenish the Home Ownership Opportunity Fund, currently around $350,000 after $450,000 was committed to Habitat for Humanity's six-unit zero Wellesley Street project. A pickleball-court application was withdrawn.
