Weston CPC Defers Pool and Brooke School Projects, Approves Four Other Requests

WESTON — March 21, 2022 — Weston CPC approves four CPA requests totaling over $1.4 million and defers both the pool and Brooke School expansion. The Community Preservation Committee voted unanimously Monday to approve a $42,000 Case Park landscape restoration grant, a $39,000 Regional Housing Services renewal, a $1 million replenishment of the Affordable Housing Trust's homeownership fund, and a $306,000 historic preservation deed restriction on 669 Boston Post Road — the largest such restriction in town history, topping a prior record of $250,000. A $195,000 exterior siding project at Merriam Village, the town's 62-unit senior affordable housing complex, passed 6-2 after debate over whether siding replacement qualifies as CPA-eligible preservation; a 2013 DHCD guidance memo and town counsel opinion confirmed it does. The committee voted 8-0 to defer a $2.3 million Weston Memorial Pool renovation, citing the Project Building Committee's finding that construction documents were only about 30 percent complete and no firm bids existed. A $250,000 schematic design study for up to 14 new units at Brooke School Apartments was also deferred 7-1 amid sharp opposition from Maple Road and School Street neighbors who said community outreach had been wholly inadequate.
