Weston CPC approves $3,500 to oversee Wellington Farms lead cleanup

WESTON — November 28, 2017 — Weston's Community Preservation Committee approved $3,500 to independently monitor lead-contamination cleanup at 500 Wellesley Street, the property known as Wellington Farms. The unanimous vote, taken at the November 28 meeting, authorizes the town to retain licensed site professional Jim Luker for up to 20 hours to review the remediation plan submitted by landowner Nick Danforth and assess subsequent soil-test results. Michelle Cresenda of the Conservation Commission told the committee the town had previously canceled its purchase agreement after elevated lead levels were found in two soil samples, and that Danforth has since hired Arcadis — the firm that originally discovered the contamination — to conduct the cleanup. The funds are drawn from CPC administrative reserves and cover plan review only; any on-site verification of actual soil removal would require a separate contract. Cresenda warned the committee it may return for additional funding if testing reveals more extensive contamination.
