Weston Conservation Commission Approves Deer Fencing, Wedding Use, and Four Other Actions

WESTON — December 2, 2025 — Weston Conservation Commission approves deer fencing for town-leased farm field, private wedding use at Dixon Riding Ring, and three additional land-use actions. At the December 2 meeting, Chair Rees Tulloss and members including Robert Mosher and Glenn Butcher voted unanimously on all five matters. Lansake Farm manager Brendan told the commission that deer caused an estimated $10,000 to $15,000 in crop losses at the Concord Road field in 2025, with near-total losses of lettuce, chard, and radicchio; the commission approved a permanent eight-foot smart-net fence in concept, well below the $45,000 woven-wire alternative, subject to final specifications approved by staff. The commission issued a partial — rather than full — certificate of compliance for 21 Chestnut Street after developer Mark Kaplan acknowledged a closing was scheduled the following day but that a meadow-habitat requirement memorialized in the order of conditions remained unfinished. The commission also approved a minor plan change allowing neighbor Stephen Leibovitz to use the riding ring for a son's September 2026 wedding, with edge-maintenance work on the ring as the in-kind donation, and separately approved a 67-foot boardwalk for 44 Nonsuch Road and a grading amendment at 183 Conant Road.
