Weston committee advances Ash Street walkway, finalizes Route 117 safety markings

WESTON — April 14, 2021 — Weston Traffic and Sidewalk Committee schedules April 20 pavement-marking work at Route 117 and Merriam Street. Chair Jay Doyle's committee on April 14 reviewed the $400,000 Ash Street walkway, which the Community Preservation Committee has approved and which goes to Annual Town Meeting May 15 after a May 5 Planning Board hearing on a single tree removal. Town engineering staff member Ellie Bahrevar said the Route 117 first phase — 11-foot lanes, advanced stop-ahead signs 200 feet out, repositioned stop lines, painted median, and pavement-stamped "STOP" — will be installed Tuesday night, weather permitting. Resident Bill Fitzsimmons of 340 Merriam Street pressed on the omitted overhead flashing beacon from the Howard Stein Hudson report; Bahrevar said the beacon is held for a possible second phase if speeds do not drop. The committee also reviewed a revised Gun Club Lane parking plan from Weston Forest and Trail Association for a May vote.
