Select Board approves four Arbor Day tree plantings at Fire Station 2 and Town Green

WESTON — April 27, 2021 — Weston Select Board clears four Arbor Day plantings and agrees to revisit a 2019 MassHousing letter. Meeting remotely April 27 with Chair Laurie Bent and member Harvey Bossart present and Chris Houston absent, the board unanimously approved two red maples and a dogwood at Fire Station 2 — a gift dedicated to first responders proposed by Parks and Cemetery Director Jackie Jackson — and an Eastern redbud on the Town Green donated by the Fleming family to honor longtime volunteer Nancy Fleming. Tree Advisory Group member Nina Danforth called the maples "fiery red in the fall, very appropriate for the fire station," and flagged a separate Eversource offer of a 12-foot American elm near the Burgoyne sign that will require Town Center landscape review by Steve LaRocque. Resident Kate McGovern urged the board to correct a 2019 letter to MassHousing on the 751 Boston Post Road 40B project in light of State Ethics Commission findings against former Selectman Doug Gillespie; Bossart agreed to refer the letter to town counsel. The consent agenda accepted a $1,500 gift to the Council on Aging and reappointed Tom Killigan to the Cultural Council through April 27, 2024.
