Planning Board continues three major hearings as SJC 3A ruling lands

WESTON — January 8, 2025 — Weston Planning Board continues Drabbington, Love Lane, and Deer Path hearings as SJC voids 3A guidelines. Town Planner Imaikalani Aiu told the board the Jan. 8 SJC ruling upheld the MBTA Communities Act and AG enforcement authority but threw out the implementing guidelines, leaving Weston "back to the very general language of the state law" pending emergency rulemaking within one to two weeks. Chair Leslie Glynn said any renewed compliance effort should be led by a broader working committee: "We did our best… We're tired." Aiu also reported the Housing Appeals Committee overturned the town's denial of 518 South Avenue, pushing Weston past the 10 percent affordable threshold. Developer Bob Parsekian presented a reduced 17-unit plan for the former Drabbington Inn; 18 neighbors petitioned against a contemporary 5 Deer Path Lane design that Vice Chair Alex Selvig said fails the bylaw's harmony standard.
