Kendal Common committee schedules site visit to draw historic district boundaries

WESTON — October 17, 2024 — Kendal Common study committee pivots from research to drafting an actual district proposal. The Weston committee on Oct. 17 set a Tuesday, Oct. 29 site visit at 9:30 a.m. and a Nov. 7 drafting session to produce a boundary map and governance structure for a possible Town Meeting article. Neighborhood Representative Rick Brotman said recent house turnover has helped the cause, citing a mid-September sale of the Varden house to a pair of architects who "don't want to put their personal stamp on it." Architect David Fixler urged starting from the original Kendal Common plan and using flexibility in state law to seat neighborhood residents on the future historic district commission. Members agreed to exclude a newly built large home on French Road but include surrounding houses, and voted unanimously to approve Aug. 7 and Sept. 19 minutes.
