Kendal Common committee awaits Aug. 19 responses to consultant solicitation

WESTON — July 28, 2022 — Kendal Common study committee waits on eight-firm consultant pool with Aug. 19 deadline. The Kendal Common Historic District Study Committee met July 28 to review the status of a Massachusetts Historical Commission request for qualifications issued July 20 to eight preservation consultants, including the Public Archaeology Laboratory of Pawtucket, Neil Larson and Associates of Kingston, N.Y., and individual practitioners in Boston, Medford, Reading, Winchester, South Hamilton and Hopkinton. Member David called Public Archaeology Laboratory "sort of the gold standard" but questioned the New York firm's distance. The committee confirmed its own forthcoming historic district study will require a separate procurement and discussed adding the neighborhood's original deed restrictions — modified in 1993 and expired around 2000 — to the study's scope. Members tentatively set their next meeting for Sept. 1, contingent on the Historical Commission's Aug. 23 agenda.
